She will spend her life behind bars for murdering 30-year-old Jayna Murray inside the Lululemon clothing shop where the two worked.

Brittany Norwood will spend the rest of her life in prison for one of the most notorious, brutal and bizarre murders ever in Montgomery County. Norwood stabbed her co-worker, former Johns Hopkins student Jayna Murray, more than 300 times last year at the Lululemon store in Bethesda where they worked.

She then concocted a story that masked men attacked and raped them. It quickly fell apart under mounting forensic evidence.

“With Brittany not being allowed to walk on the streets, that is one person that, as a society, we don’t have to worry about,” Jayne Murray’s mother, Phyllis Murray, said.

Jayna Murray’s father told the judge he would never forgive Norwood, that he has not moved away from rage. He asked that Norwood never be allowed to walk the streets.

“It was absolutely the right sentence under Maryland law,” David Murray, Jayna Murray’s father, said.

Norwood was in tears when she addressed the court for the first time. She told the victim’s family she was sorry and she said she knew there was nothing she could do to take their pain away.

As many in the courtroom wept, Murray’s mother described how the killing plunged her family into deep despair. And Norwood’s loved ones described how the murder shattered their family as they begged the judge for lenience.

“I was shocked and thought that in the light of the tragedy, they had admitted to some extent that she had done this crime,” State Attorney John McCarthy said. “She virtually took no responsibility for this crime today. To me, that is another aggravating factor that makes the sentence from Judge Greenberg absolutely appropriate.”

McCarthy called Norwood a pathological liar. The judge said he had few doubts she could be rehabilitated.

Norwood’s brother also spoke at the sentencing Friday and he said his sister was not a horrible person. He prayed for some glimmer of hope but the judge did not show Brittany Norwood any mercy.

Murray’s family says she will always be alive in their hearts and they miss her more than words can say.

A man authorities say stole $68,000 in historic Civil War memorabilia last summer now has another problem.

All these months later, the alleged perpetrator of the “history heist,” Jason Bowen, has now been charged in a hit-and-run crash that almost killed a bicyclist during his getaway with all those artifacts.

CBS Baltimore reports it all started at the home of Jason Banis, who had been collecting Civil War memorabilia for 20 years. Last summer his most prized possessions disappeared, a $68,000 value.

Police now believe that as Jason Bowen tried to make his getaway, he hit a bicyclist with his car and then fled, leaving the man fighting for his life. The bicyclist was in critical condition, survived, and is out of the hospital.

When police located Bowen’s car, it had massive damage to the front windshield consistent with hitting a person.

Meanwhile, Banis’ prized memorabilia has never been recovered.

“I had major dealers wanting to buy some of my stuff that I’d never let go,” Banis said. “It’s a lifetime of collecting that’s now gone.”"I had no idea about the hit-and-run. I knew his truck was wrecked. His van was wrecked,” Banis said.

By the way, CBS Baltimore reports that before these events the alleged hit-and-run thief, Jason Bowen, was considered family by Jason Banis, the theft victim.

Sounds like civil war.

Anthony McIntosh was arrested in New York City on Thursday, accused of failing to alert emergency workers after finding an inmate unresponsive in his cell in June 2008.

An indictment unsealed Thursday charges McIntosh with a federal civil rights violation and with two counts of destroying or falsifying records in a federal investigation.

Ronnie White was found dead in his jail cell days after he was arrested in the hit-and-run death of Cpl. Richard Findley. The state medical examiner had ruled the 19-year-old was strangled and declared the death a homicide

Court records don’t show an attorney for McIntosh.

The family of convicted killer Brittany Norwood is asking the judge to sentence her to life in prison with a chance of parole.

The 29-year-old is due to be sentenced Friday for the murder of Jayna Murray at the Lululemon store last fall.

Norwood’s family wrote over a dozen impassioned memos to the judge, begging for a chance of parole.

Prince George’s County Police say Linda McCorkle is the woman who used kids to dupe an elderly woman out of her savings.

That 84-year-old victim spoke with FOX 5 under the condition we concealed her identity.

“When you’re not working, you get a little pension, social security, you don’t have much,” she said.

Police say the victim was approached by McCorkle who had three kids with her.

“She said her sister was an alcoholic and it was her sister’s children and they had not had anything to eat for two days. She had this check and she asked me to cash it for her because she couldn’t it cashed and I was calling myself [in] helping these children,” said the victim.

The 84-year-old agreed to help. But once McCorkle got inside her car to go to the bank, she implied she had a gun and ordered the victim to withdraw money from the bank.

McCorkle ended up taking thousands of dollars from the victim’s bank account.

“Our police captains did some research on this crime and found that the ruse of approaching someone blindly in a shopping center and asking for help cashing a check is not uncommon. What is uncommon is using those children as part of the scam,” said Prince George’s County Police spokesperson Julie Parker.

At this point, investigators don’t know who the children are and how they are connected to McCorkle.

“If the children hadn’t been there, I would have never stopped. I’d have just kept on walking. But that’s the only thing that stopped me,” said the 84-year-old.

The victim said she has learned a lesson. Even though she meant well, her effort to help didn’t pay off.

Police are also looking for a second suspect, a female who walked up and took the kids away as the suspect took the victim to the bank.

Martin O’Malley on Wednesday aimed at closing a $1.1 billion deficit.

The Democrat outlined a $15.3 billion general fund budget plan that includes about $311 million in new revenue. About $182 million will come from capping income tax deductions and phasing out exemptions. O’Malley said on average, a family of four with annual income of about $150,000 will pay $191 more.

The governor’s plan would cap income tax deductions at 90 percent for incomes above $100,000 and 80 percent for incomes above $200,000.

It also would reduce exemptions from $2,400 to $1,200 per person for singles who make between $100,000 and $125,000 and couples who make between $150,000 and $175,000. Exemptions would be eliminated for singles who make more than $125,000 and couples with incomes above $175,000.

Republicans quickly criticized the governor’s plan, which must be approved by the Democrat-controlled General Assembly by the end of the legislation session in April.

Horace McDade, 58, of Bowie, Md., and John V. Haile, 54, of Woodbridge, Va., were arrested late Wednesday. Federal prosecutors allege the two worked as a team to systematically pilfer from the transit agency’s malfunctioning fare machines. McDade is a revenue technician, and Haile is a Metro police officer who provided security for the money transports.

Metro Thursday announced that both men have been suspended and that it is launching a review to determine how the thefts occurred and can be prevented in the future.

The investigation began after a source reported that Haile routinely pulled up in a Jaguar to a store in Woodbridge with $500 bags of coins to buy lottery tickets. Lottery records show Haile won $32,000 in 2011, and that only counts winning tickets of $600 or more. A court affidavit states that Haile had been doing so for three years, first starting with handfuls of $1 coins and eventually moving up to bags full of coins.

Lottery officials say Haile also had reported winnings of $17,000 in 2010, $8,400 in 2009 and $5,400 in 2008, again excluding winning tickets of less than $600. Lottery officials told police that Haile must have been buying “an extraordinary amount of tickets” to accumulate such winnings.

The investigation is still seeking to determine exactly how much money was stolen, but in the court affidavit, authorities say that Haile’s bank records show unexplained cash deposits of more than $150,000 since 2008.

The affidavit states that McDade, as a revenue technician, was assigned to emergency situations, replenishing fare machines that were empty and removing money from machines that were full. Haile would frequently change his police shifts from Metro’s “money train” — which goes from station to station to collect money from fare card machines — to emergency shifts so he could work with McDade.

After the investigation began, the two were placed under surveillance and seen multiple times deviating from their route to hide bags of coins underneath an overpass by the Courtyard Marriott in Alexandria, according to the affidavit.

“Each night, the Metro put its trust — and its money — in the hands of these two defendants, and these men are accused of ripping off thousands of dollars from the Metro and local taxpayers,” said U.S. Attorney Neil MacBride, whose office is prosecuting the case.

Metro’s police chief, Michael Taborn, said “we will not tolerate theft from Metro, and employees — especially law enforcement personnel — will be held accountable.”

McDade and Haile were scheduled to make initial appearances Thursday afternoon before a federal magistrate. It could not immediately be determined if the men had attorneys.
